Specimen notes
Public Note:
Cap umbonate, 4cm diam. cigar brown, radially fibrillose, with small squamules towards centre. Gills adnate, edge brown. Spores not cuboid, 6-7 angled. With brown plasmatic cheilocystidia. Unclamped. Stem base not red. Spores length=7.8–9.6µm (µ=8.8, σ=0.50), width=4.9–6.6µm (µ=5.7, σ=0.41), Q=1.4–1.7µm (µ=1.56, σ=0.10), n=20. Spores are considerably smaller than they should be. This fits the Tasmanian E. saponicum but taste of this unknown. The sequence shows this is closely rlated to E. porphyrophaeus and so E. porphyrescens must be considered.
