Specimen notes
Public Note:
looking a bit like an Entoloma or Mycena but neither. Taste mealy, smell faint of linseed. Dried badly. No tissue amyloid or dextrinoid. No cheilocystidia. Cap a clamped cutis with broad cyindrical terminal elements, clamped. 4-spored. Nothing pigmented in KOH, spores smooth with refractive content. Spores strongly absorbing BCB but not metachromatic. Spores very weakly cyanophilous. Possibly lumpy? Nothing siderophilous. Seems to be similar to Gyroflexus(Sphagnomphalia)/Gerronema/Omphalina brevibasidiata (clitocybe cincta) - sphagnum associate. Spores length=6.4–8.2µm (µ=7.3, σ=0.5), width=4.0–4.9µm (µ=4.4, σ=0.3), Q=1.4–1.8µm (µ=1.7, σ=0.1), n=19. Basidia 25 x 8. This is in the Clitocybe candicans/connatum lineage according to ITS, which is not Clitocybe sensu stricto and is now Leucocybe. LSU is not within that clade and perhaps near Omphaliaster borealis. Related sequences labelled C. subditopa are ambiguous (3 versions in GenBank). This does not appear to have tomentose cap when young.. Sequence identical to PDD72713 as Lyophyllum. This does not fit the generic concept of Leucocybe and the sequence data is indefinite, so not really a Leucocybe (or Lyophyllum) but useful to isolate as something different. More collections required and testing with FeSO4 to see if violet recation like L. connatum
