Specimen notes
Public Note:
looks like it had a tap root. Apparently a long way from any trees. Cap date-brown to cigar-brown, slimy and stem fibrous. Always 2-spored. No blueish colours anywhere. No clamps. Stem solid, not hollow. Cap has both hairs and cystidia. It has both utriform and cylindrical slightly capitate pleurocystidia. No smell, taste mild. spores length=15.1–17.3µm (µ=16.3, σ=0.7), width=10.0–12.7µm (µ=11.7, σ=0.7), Q=1.3–1.5µm (µ=1.4, σ=0.1), n=20. . I'm not convinced that all existing NZ material is X. colensoi, c.f. PDD84484 and it would be easy to check 2/4 spored status. New to NZ (as gigaspora). cap dark.
