Specimen notes
Public Note:
gills thick, browning. Fruitbody with red blotches and purple hyphae at stem base, and in surrounding soil (like that reported for the different vinaceocuticulata). Young fruitbodies semi-secotioid, and powdery. No smell, taste mild. Hardly peeling. Gills pale buff. Spore print white. Note this is from the same location as a paratype of R. australis PDD31612. There aren't likely to be too many Russulas at this site - it is small. But also note that it is the only paratype with Leptospermum and the rest are with Nothofagus. This is identical to the collection from Eyrewell. Is there yet another taxon here? Gills dried crema to grey, not orange. No lamellulae would exclude allochroa/australis. This is non-vinaceo capped version of vinaceocuticulata! with DNA tube
