Specimen notes
Public Note:
slight smell of aniseed, schaeffers reaction negative, flesh not pink but browning, young gills pink. Note dark ringline at base of stem, upper stem ring fugacious, hanging. The cap is reminiscent of european images of A. lanipes but that appears to be a much more robust fungus. Mitchell's material from Mona Vale does seem more like the European taxon. This must be indigenous. Section spissicaulis subsection amoeni, otherwise known only from paleotropics. This close to A. subrutilescens aff from Campbell Island. Cheilocystidia not discernable so basidiolar or absent. Spores length=5.4–6.5µm (µ=6.0, σ=0.28), width=3.4–4.2µm (µ=3.8, σ=0.18), Q=1.4–1.8µm (µ=1.56, σ=0.10), n=20
