Public Note:
veil cells globose - Coprinellus section micacei. Stem smooth. Gills with separating cells. Spores submitriform. 4-spored. length=6.5–7.7µm (µ=7.2, σ=0.4), width=5.0–5.9µm (µ=5.5, σ=0.3), Q=1.2–1.4µm (µ=1.3, σ=0.1), n=12. The lack of caulocystidia places this nearer to C. truncorum/saccharina than micaceus, except for mitriform spores. As Young points out (2005), European accounts differ on presence of caulocystidia from C. micaceus - which doesn't leave much to differentiate C. truncorum from C. micaceus. The mitriform shape of the spores of course depends whther they are seen in face view or not, altho truncorum/sccharina do not appear to have such mitriform spores. Also this taxon is associated with an ozonium. C. micaceus and C. truncorum are not noted to have this, whereas C. radians, bipellis, domesticus and xanthothrix do, but none of these taxa have mitriform spores! The name C. truncorum seems to be in common use in Australia.
