Public Note:
fruitbody tough, smell farinaceous.Gill edge smoky against white base. Cap peeling. Gills not forking. In a series of three. Spores amylod. length=7.2–8.6µm (µ=7.9, σ=0.6), width=4.2–5.5µm (µ=4.8, σ=0.5), Q=1.5–2.0µm (µ=1.7, σ=0.2), n=5 Cap a cutis of cylindrical unclamped hyphae 10um (without Hydropus-cells). 4-spored, microscopically mycena-like, without cheilocystidia. This certainly looks like Stevenson's taxon - but it definitely has amyloid spores, which is how she described it, but not how Horak described on re-examining the type and thus transferring it to omphalina. This is perhaps better placed in clitocybula or pseudoclitocybe. Sequence confirms proximity to P. cyathiformis. Cantharellula umbonata (generic type) lies elsewhere in a clade with Hygrocybe and other moss/algae associates. C. fistulosa (Pseudoarmillariella) possibly a synonym, although cap cells suggest that is hydropoid and nearer to Clitocybula. Sequences say this is a pseudoclitocybe, and near Pleurella ardesiaca.
