Specimen notes
Public Note:
[PL & NS] spore size does not match Corner's C. atrolazulinus. [SK] cap hyphae exude red pigment in KOH. [JAC] exuding red in KOH. with some brown plasmatic hyphae in cap, spores length=10.2–11.9µm (µ=11.3, σ=0.5), width=8.1–8.8µm (µ=8.5, σ=0.2), Q=1.3–1.4µm (µ=1.3, σ=0.0), n=8. As Noah pointed out, the spores simply do not fit C. atrolazulinus. C. subcalyptrosporus is closer (but does not havered pigment in KOH). Sept. 2015. C. atrolazulinus with beech, spore width to 6.5um and Q=1.9, C. carneipallidus with beech, spore width to 9um, Q=1.4, kiolensis with tea-tree, spore width to 9, Q=1.5. Complicated by there also being C. atroviolaeous ss NZ undescribed, and not section Cortinarius, and a tea-tree variety of C. carneipallidus.
