Specimen notes
Public Note:
FN36. Without cystidia, without clamps, 4-spored, without anamorph (unless it is the accompanying Candelabrum!), hyphal walls smooth, ... B. candicans/vagum. Note that E&E have a conidial state for B. vagans which the rest of the literature says there isn't. Basidia 8um wide. Basal hyphae 7um diameter and < 2 times subbasidial branches (incorrect for vagum group in some keys) and yellowish. Spores not biapiculate. length=7.9-9.8µm (µ=8.8, σ=0.6), width=3.7-4.6µm (µ=4.1, σ=0.3), Q=1.9-2.3µm (µ=2.1, σ=0.2), n=6. Clearly from the lit there is a complex around several taxa here. I do not agree with the current NZFUNGI synonymy of aureum and botryosum. Peter B has B. obtusisporum from the same area. This differs in that it has consistently 4-spored basidia. I'd guess this is the same as Peter's collections, and is probably a different taxon specific to Nothofagus. Note Greslebin indicates S. American taxon has > 4 spores.
