Public Note:
FN195. Cottony and easily lifting. Cystidia absent, cordons absent, hyphae and spores tan coloured. Hyphae and tan in KOH, spores nearly hyaline to tan - no greens/blues. Spines on spores < 1um. Basal hyphae 6um. Subiculum margin brown. Basidia cylindrical 20-30x10um. Spores <=7um wide. Spores (excluding apiculus and sines and noting they are wider than long) length=5.0-5.8µm (µ=5.4, σ=0.3), width=5.1-6.7µm (µ=6.2, σ=0.5), Q=0.8-1.1µm (µ=0.9, σ=0.1), n=8. None of Cunningham's 'Tomentellas' are unclamped. . Koljalg Synopsis Fungorum 9 to fibrosa (due to lack of clamps & tan spores) but spores wrong, and this has long brown cystidia. T. zygodesmoides is recorded for Australia and apparently treated as T. bombycina by Cunningham, although I'm not convinced by the synonymy as Cunningham says T. bombycina is clamped. Perhaps a Cunningham misapplication? Stalpers to Tomentellopsis zygodesmoides, and this can have pale tan spores. That northen hemisphere and on pine - so this is 'near'. Peter J says: "it is a poor match to the only putative zygodesmoides in Genbank - genetically doubtfully even the right genus from the limited data avialable.". It's actually adjacent 3 sequences for T. zygodesmoides, which are themselves adjacent the main group of Tomentellopsis. So c.f zygodesmoides is good, and maybe the whole lot need a new genus?
