Public Note:
In depositing in genbank Peter J says "Have cited as Resupinatus applicatus but based on AY571059 it is not the same species as R. applicatus sensu Bodensteiner et al., Mol. Phylogenet. Evol. 33 (2), 501-515 (2004)". Agreed, but R. applicatus is the nearest current match in genbank. Fruitbodies start as cupulate and mature with lateral attachement and basal white/tan strands, but not black tufts like trichotis. Pileipellis surface smooth, without hairs. The pileipellis is clamped, gelatinised and branching. There are no rhomboidal crystals in the hymenium. Cystidia not observed. 4-spored. Spores, excluding apiculus, length=6.0-7.0µm (µ=6.5, σ=0.27), width=4.6-5.9µm (µ=5.2, σ=0.31), Q=1.1-1.4µm (µ=1.24, σ=0.07), n=20 (broadly ellipsoid of FAN). Seems to fit R. subapplicatus. For Cleland his R. subapplicatus originally 6-7 spherical, then 5-7x3.5-5.5, Q=1.3. For Grgurinovich 5.6x5, Q=1.2.. So these are slightly larger and with Q in agreement.
