Specimen notes
Public Note:
Heavily infected with Amplellomyces. Holomorph. Cleistotheicia surface cells of cleistothecium 20-30um, with single 8-spored ascus, 125um diam, spores 30x20um appendages spiral, around 10 per ascocarp, 2-3 times diameter of ascocarps (but strongly spiralled), unbranched, with simple ends. Close to S. hibiscicola but that with more brown appendages, not spiralled, and smaller ascocarp. Does explain records of 's. fuliginea' on malvaceae perhaps? in PDD the only records apart from mine are Lincoln records and Tamaki records of Oidium. S. fuliginea is recorded from Hoheria. I think the spiral appenadges of this make it dictinctive (and not S. spiralis on Escallonia).
