Specimen notes
Public Note:
with a slight purplish tint to fruitbody. Spores not purplish in KOH, hyphae clamped - Tomentella. Basidiocarp not separable from substrate (subgen alytosporium). A few parallel hyphal strands, basidiocarp margin concolorous or slightlty paler than centre (but not yellow). Subicular hyphae 4-5um, thin-walled.Cystidia absent, basidia < 10um diam, and basidiospores ellipsoid in face view, subcuticular hyphae not encrusted, pale brown, echinuli ~1um, not bifurcate, -> T. ellisii/atramentaria. EE-albomarginata/ellisii, Stalpers - elissi/pilatii=atramentaria, julich brevispina. Spores length=8.2–9.9µm (µ=9.0, σ=0.6), width=5.8–6.5µm (µ=6.3, σ=0.2), Q=1.3–1.7µm (µ=1.4, σ=0.1), n=7. What about sublilacina UK checklist has in wet areas? - but this has irregular spores. See also T. radiosa - but also has irregular spores according to some authors (note Agerer says T. ellisii has cyanescent basidia in KOH?). The consensus is T. ellisii. New record for NZ.
