Specimen notes
Public Note:
smell slightly fruity, taste mild, cap peeling 3/4. Cap edge not pectinate. Gill edge concolorous. Stem stuffed. Cap predominantly purplish chestnut, with olivaceous shades in older caps, fading to straw. Stem white but developing rose fibrils which become more dense with age. Guaiac weakly positive (after 15 mins grey) - not shown in pic, FeSO4 slightly salmon with time. Gill colour C-D. Without lamellules. With basal interveining. Mature specimens with rose colour bleeding onto gill edge at perimeter. Sub-cuticular colour white. KOH on cap orange. NH4OH no change. Pleurocystidia scarce, thin-walled. With strong +ve DCY in SV, septate (although I tried another part of cap and DCY are present but only weakly +ve in SV!). EIKMN. If this is pilocystidiata then it is atypical in that guaic is +ve (after a while) and FES04 is weak. I have yet to see the NH4OH green reaction on atriviridis, and I have yet to be convinced this is different. If it is then its the subcuticual pink flush of atroviridis that divides them easily. Jan 2012: dna says same as jac10470 and pl51209 as griseoviolacea. Spores with plage and amyloid spot. length=6.7–8.1µm (µ=7.1, σ=0.33), width=5.5–6.9µm (µ=6.1, σ=0.36), Q=1.1–1.2µm (µ=1.17, σ=0.05), n=20, ornamentation to 0.8um. Material to Pat 05/12
