has a musty smell. Large specimen, 30cm diam and with 8cm diam stem. Ring lost but visible in photo. Cap with scales. . An unusual collection. 4-spored. Spores more almond shaped, without pore. Possible spore wall is lightly rugulose. length=7.9-10.2µm (µ=8.9, σ=0.78), width=5.1-5.5µm (µ=5.3, σ=0.14), Q=1.5-2.0µm (µ=1.69, σ=0.18), n=10. No cystidia. Cap clamped, an irregular cutis. Not hymeniform. What is this?! Pat thinks the NZ Nothofagus version of Hebeloma victoriense. Sequence says Cortinarius australiensis. There appear to be two NZ species hiding under this name.
