Specimen notes
Public Note:
edge slightly pectinate, peeling 1/2 - 2/3. Cap very slimy in centre when wet. FeSO4 pink, guaiac slightly olive. KOH on cap paling to orange. Smell slightly of raw apples, taste nil. Without lamellulae, partial anastomising towards stem, basally intervenose. Spore print A - white. PL: "A Russula with purple, olivaceous and yellow colours on the cap and a white stem is unknown. The viscid cap, presence of occasional dermatocystidia staining in SV and occasional thick walled pleurocystidia all match with my proposed R. mavorea. " [JAC2010] The cap has many DCY, some yellow in KOH. Cap tissue very difficult to squash. Spores length=7.9–9.5µm (µ=8.9, σ=0.5), width=6.6–8.8µm (µ=7.5, σ=0.6), Q=1.0–1.4µm (µ=1.2, σ=0.1), n=14. Perhaps with beech here?
