Specimen notes
Public Note:
smelling of aniseed (not almond?). Immediate light bruising red, then yellow. KOH on cap yellow. Schaeffer bright orange (positive). No pink or lilaceous shades on cap. With insignficant, but definitely present, cheilocystidia. Spores length=4.5–5.3µm (µ=5.0, σ=0.2), width=3.0–3.8µm (µ=3.4, σ=0.2), Q=1.3–1.6µm (µ=1.5, σ=0.1), n=16. Section minores. Options comtulus, diminutivus, semotus=dulcidulus, campbellensis - section minores. The latter three come out close in sequences - mycologia 100, p577 & mycotaxon v100, p193 and it would be interesting to see how different diminutivus really is to cambellensis. A. dulcidulus (spores 5.5. x 3.4, with cheilocystidia), A. cambellensis (spores 7.6 x 3.4, q=1.69, cystidia not described but mentioned as present - a bit slack), diminutivus (spores 5.2 x 3.7, without cheilocystidia). This probably nearer to diminutivus. See also PDD80826, but perhaps not later collections of Agaricus sp. 'Rotokuru Lakes (PDD80826)'! Note that A. bambusae var. australis sensu Horak (image) or Taylor (plate 24) seems different to Heinemann's original description. ITS/LSU close to wariatodes. Not like existing sequences of either semotus or dulciolens, which are different to each other. Nearly same as pat's concept of A. oligocystis but is not like Horak's image.
