Specimen notes
Public Note:
Conidia 11 x 2. Causing purple blotches on living leaves. This is very common on Coprosma throughout New Zealand. Perhaps the few records of Phoma are also this? Clearly phialidic. It appears we have at least two such spots on Coprosma. This one has longer conidia and hyaline tendrils and is probably the same fungus on Matthiola (as A. matthiolae = 'Septoria' matthiolae) and the same as the genbank CBS record of 'M. coacervata' which is probably a misapplication (what length were the conidia?). (id later changed by CBS to Septoria coprosmae). The other has short conidia and green tendrils and is probably same as Mycospharella coacervata anamoprh Sydow. Aptroot says the type is ambiguous. The sequenced M. coacervata (misapp, but now corrected) is shown by Crous to be in the Septoria clade along with some other Ascochytas. It also seems likely that M coacervata sensu stricto = Phylosticta coprosmae. M. coacervata 5-6x1.5-2.5, P. coprosmae 6 x 2-2.5. P. coprosmae 1902. M. coacervata 1924.
