Specimen notes
Public Note:
broadly spinose and tranluscent. Growing in between 10664 and very similar other than translucent gelatinous look of this and opaque white of 10664. Subgelatinous and not swelling when wet (Lowy key). Pegs 300-800um about 5 per mm. Cruciately septate basidia. Fruitbody with hyphidia, with stellate polarising crystals (possibly dissolving in acid?) 25um in diam. Spores 7.2-9.4(8.5) SD0.7 n=12 x 3.7-4.5(4.1) SD0.2 n=13. Crystals visible under stereo as white powder between pegs. Mature basidia globose, fruitbodies not compound. Roberts 1998 to Heterochaete. The crystals are like those of S. dubia but the pegs here are far more conspicuous than the bundles of thick-walled cystidia for S. dubia. The hyphae in the pegs of this collection are thin-walled. Can't find anything that fits. Not Eichleriella spinosa - spores far too small.
