Clive comments "This species was named for me by a mycologist studying the genus (Nigel Fetchner) now on finding a second collection I was surprised to find the spores are much to larger then they should be and now suspect it an unnamed species.". The spores here are 11-12 x 4-5um and trama clamped (not R. australiana). Note that Petersen's NZ record of R. rubropermanens was with Eucalyptus. The species in native bush is likley to be R. purpureopallida and the micro-moprhology fits. However, we have two other canidates that also fit R. purpureopallida macroscopically and microscopically. To make the situation worse GenBank (May 2019) has two species labelled R. rubripermanens, and this is neither. One of those is from USA material and therefore likely to be the real thing. This NZ taxon is perhaps best treated as R. rubripermanens cf. until more NZ material (and including the Eucalypt) associate is available.
