Specimen notes
Public Note:
Some specimens were pink when collected and black by time picture was taken. Flesh slowly pinkish with KOH. Cap initially clay pink, bruising black. Spore print black. 2-spored, with boletoid spores, broad cheilocystidia with brown content. There are suggestions in the literature that S. grevillei is necessary to stimulate fruiting of G. maculatus (like Suillus boviuns and G. roseus). No mention of 2-spored forms in lit and not described as such by McNabb. Spores 20-22(21) SD0.8, n=4 X 6.6-7.5(7.1) SD0.4, n=4
