Specimen notes
Public Note:
contents green/yellow. Spores 7-septate, pale brown, geniculate. Asci 250um x 17um. Spores 40-50 x 6um. No sign of Munk pores, no sign of sub-apical globule, or appendages on spores (but a few germinating). Outer white felty layer and inner black layer - can't see more than that. Toni's comments on this species in NZ; "1). There are many collections of L. lanuginosa in New Zealand - mine, and also what was already in PDD, but labelled L. ovina (which is not in NZ). It is 'new to NZ' if merely wrongly labelled in the herbarium? 2). None of those (3-5?) that I've sequenced are the same as L. lanuginosa sequenced by Miller and Huhndorf. I think I also got ?3 different NZ ones also, with only very minor morphological differences. M & H have a species complex, and ours add considerably to the complexity ... coming out all mixed up with L. sorbina etc. ... although being very morphologically distinct from that due to the much longer spores in lanuginosa."
