Specimen notes
Public Note:
with greyish stems (has white hyphae over darker background and when pressed the darker background comes through as stripes) and dark red cap(with fine purple hyphal mat in patches) becoming brown with maturity. No lamellulae, gills with greyish tinge. Taste mild, smell of chlorine in field then slightly fishy after a day, FeSO4 grey. Spore print C-D. Doesn't key in Pat's list. . PL: "This is R. vinaceocuticulata. The vinaceous to purplish areolate patches on the cap are characteristic. I cannot see that the cap is dark red, it is a rich dark brown to me! Interesting that you got a grey or negative FeSO4 result. Mc Nabb says it should be salmon and mine was very pale pink!" There are two packets of 9894 and no 9895 - wrongly inserted?
