Specimen notes
Public Note:
[2006] On re-reading samson's synonymisation of Isaria cicadae with Isaria sinclairii I note that I. cicadae has no extant type material and is accepted on the basis of descriptions. So I think somebody needs to epitypify the name against a specimen that represents I. sinclairii, or I. cicadae remains pretty much a nom. dub. Unfortunately Paecilomyces cicadae (=Isaria cicadae) is in current usage (e.g. see FD20). Even tho I. sinclairii has an established usage in NZ I suggest that NZFUNGI synonymises sinclairii with cicadae and uses the preferred name of Paecilomyces cicadae for the concept. At the very least users should be aware that NZ use of P. cicadae is equivalent to I. sinclairii. Conidia 5 x 2um smooth, colony white, sporulates without synnema. Agrees with Liang FD20. To ICMP 1/3/06. [2010] Nick Cummins says this is I. Tenuipes from the photo.
