Specimen notes
Public Note:
Clumps and singles; max height: 9 cm; max diameter of cap 9 cm; pileus: convex, gradually becoming upturned at the margin. Surface pinkish fawn, with radial cracks and often "cray paving" cracks near the umbo. Flesh solid and white, runing into the stipe which is not easily removable. Umbo rather darker than the rest of the cap; stipe: tapered upwards, very thick, solid and stumpy. 1-1/4 cm at top. Flesh white and fibrous. Surface white at the top, then with minute surface pinkish fawn dots, gradually darkening downwards and becoming longit. striate with short striae arranged in chevron patterns. White cracks in many at the position of the annulus. Cap margin strongly curled under when young and a suggestion of veil-like connections between it and the stipe. Basal pinkish "cotton wool" clings to the surrounding soil particles; gills: sinuate, notched near the stipe and with a slight decurrent tooth, whitish and thick with a tinge of apricot, long and short, not crowded, some split to the base when the cap margin curves upwards.
