Public Note:
Clustered on root, Individuals at difft. ages in the one clump; pileus: up to 6 cm diam., smoothly convex or hemispheric, warm yellow, darker brownish squamules surrounded by paler cracks in centre, fading outwards to silky loose radially-arranged fibrillar scales, fibrils at margin. Surface dry, faintly silky, margin turned under and with a flap, the remains of the veil attached. Cap darker when young. Flesh very pale creamy, thick, bitter tasting; stipe: 10 cm x 13 mm, bulbous at the base and firmly fused into a clump. Tapered upwards, yellowish striate, paler above esp. above ring. With loose surface fibrils and scales below ring. Ring superior, membranous, yellowish, with a thicker ring of fibrils on the undersurface near the stipe. Flesh solid, fibrous, pale creamy coloured throughout; gills: adnexed, pale yellow-brown deepening to rusty brown with paler yellowish irregular margin, shallow, long and short, very crowded; spores print rusty orange-brown (see upper surface of ring in painting).
