Specimen notes
Public Note:
N. solandri forest with podocarps; clump fused at base, height 15 cm (of tallest carpophore); pileus: 15/5 cm diam (largest carpophore) infundibuliform or depressed with margin curled under and exceeding the gills. Margin often radially split. Surface bright yellow, covered with red brown, oragne or dk. brown furry scales in tufts so that the surface feels velvety. Where colour shows in cracks between scales it is yellow. Fur thicker and colour darker in the centre and again at the rolled edge. Flesh whitish, granular, turning brown slowly on exposure or where handled; stipe: to 2.5 cm at base of gills, tapered downwards, covered with pale creamy fur, darkening where handled. Flesh continuous with cap, similar colour and properties. Much browner at base of stipe. Solid; Gills: decurrent, yellowish becoming brown on age or where bruised, very shallow, forking, easily peeled from cap; spore: print yellow brown; Central large cap is symmetrical, but smaller lateral ones have excentric stipes and the cap is best developed on the outer side. They are also fairly flat on top - not the deep funnel of the large central cap.
