Specimen notes
Public Note:
gill edge not separable, red coloured, occasional red 'cystidia?' on gill face visible under stereo. Stem with copious red juice. Section Galactopoda. Cap 1cm diam/high. Stipe to 10cm x 2mm with white/brown strigose hairs at base, smooth/fibrous. Q=1.6 10.8 x 6.6um, Q=2 13.3 x 6.6um, Q=2 11.6 x 5.8um. Clumps of crystals on gill edge. Basidia 10um wide x 33um, cheilocystidia 55-65 x 15um. This collection fits with m. kuurkacea Grgurinovich which she distinguishes from m. mariae on basis of slightly larger spore Q and dimensions in general. However, Segedin's analysis of m. mariae indicates that was probably an originally mixed type. Her re-analysis included other collections with Q and dimensions that fit kuurkacea. Not convinced these are different, and relationship to northern hemisphere sanguinolenta/haematopa needs clarifying. Sequences of australian material named M. kuurkacea indicate it is a later synonym of M. mariae (ore very closey related)
