Specimen notes
Public Note:
Superficially resembles Taylor's 1981 P6:22 altho ring is far less pronounced. Cap 11cm, stem to 3cm with thin ring hanging down and ring chocolate brown. Cap with dark brown/black squamules. Flesh aniseed, unchanging in colour. Schaeffer's reaction slowly (yellow then pink). KOH yellow. Gill edge sterile (brown gelatinized) but no cheilocystidia. Spores 8.5 x 5um, no germ pore, some brown, majority dark brown-grey (unusual for Agaricus). Mitchell keys to lanipes (says schaeffer 'sometimes') - except his concept of lanipes seems different to auct Europe/USA from photo on web page. See 8544 & Kerrigan's A. perobscurus and Egon's ZT0931. 2013 material covered in white growth. Can't be near moelleri, meleagris, praeclaresquamosus etc as those Xanthodermatei and this is arvenses. Spores length=8.0–9.8µm (µ=8.7, σ=0.56), width=4.8–5.9µm (µ=5.4, σ=0.26), Q=1.4–1.8µm (µ=1.60, σ=0.10), n=20
