Specimen notes
Public Note:
dark red, no juice, raddishy smell. Gill edge colour not noted, stipe glabrous at base. Dries black. Spores amyloid Q=1.75 7x4um, cheilocystidia 15-25um with numerous apical outgrowths. Pellis with very little ornamentation, sub pellis partailly gelatinised. Not fuscovinacea/vinacea with these cheilocystidia. Nearest is podocarpi but identification must remain tentative. This has radish smell and I didn't note a differently coloured gill edge. Difference to vinacea? Segedin's lividorubra has 'leaden fibrils' on the cap If really rubroglobulosa then would be brownsih orange on cap. ITS came out as Boletus - lab mistake? See also Australian M. kurramulla.
