Specimen notes
Public Note:
has gelatinous pellicle. Spores amyloid 6.5-8.5 x 4-4.5um cylindrical, no cheilocystidia. Cuticle and ixotrichoderm. Horak has questionably separated Scytinotus and Urosporellina from Panellus. Also Horak has combined a number of Panellus spp into Pleurotopsis (71&83) which for Singer is a synonym of Hohenbuehelia and possesses inamyloid spores but most(all?) NZ spp have amyloid spores. Horak's key in the more recent FNZ1 follows the traditional line and separates the genus Pleurotopsis on basis of inamyloid spores - thus excluding most NZ 'proposed' Pleurotopsis spp which are currently still classified according to the earlier treatments! (i.e. the key in FNZ1 won't work because the relevent taxa haven't yet been recombined into the names used in the key, and the combinations would go against current usage elsewhere). Pleurotopsis longinqua currently clusters within the Panellus clade but Petersen et al, Mycotaxon 79 advocate separation due to distance from type of Panellus. I originally identified this as p. subgriseus but I see no difference between P. subgriseus and P. longinquus.
