Specimen notes
Public Note:
Cap 2-3cm tacky, fulvous. Stem 3cmx3mm with well developed annular zone, and squamules below zone. Gills chocolate brown, adnate. Cap hyphae elongate, clamped, encrusted, pigment extra-cellular, cylindrical pileocystidia present. Spores smooth 6.5 x 3.25 with pore. Chrysocystidia present everywhere, gill edge going yellow, chrysocystidia to 12um diam., balloon shaped (most). Cheilocystidia cylindrical clavate 8 x 25um. In troops under salix on deep litter. Taste mild. Keys to section gummosae FAN4. P. connisans in European literature seems nearest but colour is darker. From Fungi Switzeralnd V4 seems halfway between connisans (more robust) and graminis (different colouration). Graminis seems close to the North American P. terrestris. See 9518 for discussion of identification.
