Specimen notes
Public Note:
Cap 4-6.5cm straw to buff, glutinous, encrusted with debris, infundibuliform. Gills D sinuate with lamelullae, interveining and anastomising, straight. Stem 1-1.5cm x 3.5cm. Smell fishy. Taste none. Flesh pink then brown with phenol, no reaction with ammonia or KOH. Cap lacking dermatocystidia. Spores 9um spherical 2um high anastomising ridges. Basidia 40 x 12um. Sterigma 10um. This keys near to R. rawakaiensis but is not this sp. PL: "I think this is R. australis. It has a few dermatocystidia and the staining reaction in SV is slow and not very strong, but they are there. The spores are also convincing for this species and accord very well with McNabb’s drawing. I have never knowingly collected this. " The spores on this need checking for size/shape, they cannot be globose/subglobose. Apart from that we have the usual issue of distinguishing allochroa/australis. Jan 20101 - dna says allochroa
