Specimen notes
Public Note:
Cap 1-3cm diam, umbilicate, bay with darker radial bands, fibrillose at centre. Gills distant, vinaceous, ventricose. Stem fluted 2-3.5mm x 6cm, cinnamon, tomentose at base, powdered with caulocystidia at apex. Taste & smell indistinct. Cap squamules with intracellular brown contents. Caulocystidia branching, cylindrical, subulate. Spores spherical 8-9um with 1-2um spines. 4-spored. Without cheilocystidia (cf L. masoniae). Some filiform cystidia seen. Spores length=7.6–10.0µm (µ=8.5, σ=0.52), width=6.8–8.9µm (µ=7.8, σ=0.50), Q=1.0–1.2µm (µ=1.10, σ=0.05), n=20, spines slender, fragile 3 x 1. Key differences to L. masoniae (fibrillosa form) are the spores here with much less robust spines, and absence of obvious vesiculose cheilocystidia.
