Spores 17um diam. with apiculus. Gills grey with brown edge, cap yellowish, pileipellis with thin-walled cystidia, pleurocystidia abundant, cap dry, on roots. On loan - but to whom? Id from Egon; "My long-distance
guess is that you also collected X. colensoi - first record from South
Island ! It remains open whether or not the AUS Ag. (Collybia) olivaco-albus
C. & M. are contaxic with the X. colensoi. The painting (kept in
Herb. Melbourne) of this "forgotten" Xerula recalls the NZ fungus. In
addition Doerfelt (1984) is taking about X. radicata var. australis
(= Oudemansiella) which probably represents Ag. olivaceoalbus. [jac see painting in Fungi of Southern Australia]
X. radicata var. mundroola ss Grg. is characterized by a gelatinized
cellular pileipellis which lacks pileocystidia. Accordingly, the AUS
material does not correspond wth the NZ material.
