Specimen notes
Public Note:
cap hemispherical 8cm smooth purplish chestnut. stem 4.5 x 2.5 thickening towards base, lilac to vinaceous grey, becoming white towards base. Gills D-E with purple edge. Lamelullae sparse with some anastomosis. Flesh unchanging, taste mild. Phenol pink then brown, KOH no change. KOH + Fe blue - going grey. Cap with cylindrical pilocystidia, septate, extending 70um x 5um. Pleurocystidia not thick-walled, variable, some capitate, 50 x 11.5um. Spores with open reticulum 10 x 6.5um. Can't make it fit any McNabb spp. Pat thinks griseoviridis. Need to check unusual pileal cells. To Pat 11/1/2010, confirmed. Need image of DCY. Griseoviridis shouldn’t have them. Doesn’t look like pilocystidiata but what else? SV+-, although the occasional refractive cystidia are very pale grey in SV. Spores with plage, without amyloid spot. Spores length=6.9–7.7µm (µ=7.3, σ=0.2), width=5.2–6.3µm (µ=5.8, σ=0.3), Q=1.2–1.4µm (µ=1.28, σ=0.07), n=20, ornamentation to 0.5um. Only inconsistencies with type of griseoviridis is spore ornamentation of low connectives and no verrucae, and the clear macrocystidia in this collection. Needs comparison with PL13302 and CSR03
