As conveived by Miller (1961), Van der Gucht (1995) and Ju & Rogers (1996) H. archeri is characterised by small ostiolar discs 0.1-0.2 mm diam., which is much less than the present fungus (0.35-0.4 mm). Morphological features are in agreement with collections known under H. cf. truncatum from the southern hemispehere (Ju & Rogers 1996) which is collaborated by HPLC profile (lacking truncatone). The main difference with H. moriforme is absence of truncatone.
