Public Note:
PILEUS; 4-8 cm diam., hemispherical then convex and centrally depressed, infundibuliform at maturity, dry, non-viscid, definitely pruinose under lens and with naked eye, i.e. sparsely velutinate, no indications of velar remnants. Margin entire, not radially ridged and grooved, dark red-purple all over when young, (c 13F4-5 or 14F4-5) paling with age and becoming brownish with purplish tints, sometimes remaining dark red-purple (cl3F4-5) all over at maturity. GILLS: crowded, medium thickness, pallid creamy white, brittle, adnate, lamellae simple or forked close to stipe, not forked at margins, lamellulae absent, to 9 mm deep, not discoloured at maturity. STIPE: 3.5-6 cm long, 1-2 cm diam., more or less equal but often tapering basally, annulus absent, velar remnants absent, basal mycelium white, stipe greyish-red (c 12C4-D4) or often darker (12D6-E6), paling to white at extreme base, pruinose to finely velutinate. Flesh white, firm, unchanging. CONTEXT OF PILEUS: white, firm, unchanging. SMELL: TASTE: Gills and context not distinctive. SPORE PRINT: Crawshay D when fresh. CHEMICAL REACTIONS; Formalin on context - no reaction. Phenol on context - slowly deep red, vinaceous. FeSO4 on context - immediately salmon pink. KOH on pileus - yellow-brown; KOH on context - no reaction. NH4OH on pileus and context - no reactions. HABITAT; Gregarious under Leptospermum ericoides.
