Specimen notes
Public Note:
CBS 243.63 probably grown from this specimen, based on collecting locality and "Isolated by" data provided by CBS "J.M. Dingley, No. 9". This was the only Hypocrea collected by Dingley from Granville Forest [as Glandville] and it has her culture number 58-9. The original culture at Landcare is dead.

Public Note:
from Samuels et al. Fungal Diversity 55: 77-108, 2012. "Strain CBS 243.63 (Fig. 5) has larger conidia than any of the members of this clade [(3.7–)4.7–7.7(−10.2) × (2.0–)2.7–3.5(−3.7) μm]. This strain was derived from ascospores of a Hypocrea collection made early in the 1960’s in New Zealand by J.M. Dingley and sent to J. Webster in the UK; that collection cannot be located. The culture appears to be degenerated. While this strain clearly represents a distinct lineage within the Longibrachiatum/Orientalis subclade, we are not confident that we can adequately characterize it. We deposit sequences in GenBank in the hope that the species will be recognized in the future."
Public Note:
Druzhinana et al., Fungal Genetics and Biology 49: 358-368, 2012 list this specimen amongst 'previously recognised phylogenetic species and lone lineages' as Hypocrea sp. CBS 243.63
