Pileus 19-35 mm, convex, becoming applanate with an umbo, dark brown and covered with grey fibrils forming clumps, margin inrolled at first; lamellae notched, close, often forked, whitish, staining brown where bruised; stipe 35-55 x 3.5-7 mm, equal but pointed at base (caespitose growth) covered on the very young specimens by a tan fibrillose general veil going up to the margin of the cap, later becoming darker with brown fibrils sometimes forming a zigzag pattern, specially at apex, stuffed then hollow, staining brown when bruised; context whitish, turning yellow-brown when bruised, thin; odour not distinctive, taste mild.
