Cap 30-90 mm
Cap rounded-conic to convex with involute margin, becoming plane to uplifted.
Dark blackish-brown to deep red-brown, with many scales of whitish fibrils, matted and collapsing, becoming dark brown in age.
Gills adnate soft, greasy. Pallid whitish-beige to pinkish tan, faintly brown marginate.
Stipe 23-50 x 6-10 mm. Surface beige with covering of upright felty-tomentose fibrillose chevrons.
Flesh white, solid, tough-rubbery.
Odor mild, taste mild.
