Specimen notes
Public Note:
Cap 2-4 cm across. Broadly convex at first to nearly plane. Margin distinctly crenulate. Viscid, drying out. Smooth. Margin opaque. Deep olive with blackish streaks, some drier areas with brown tones. Gills narrow, even-edged, very pallid grayish developing purplish washes or blotches. Stipe 40-60 cm tall, 7 mm thick. Surface vertically striate, entire surface with thin silvery fibrils, upper parts nearly chevrons, this layer easily removed by handling. Lower areas with whitish covering bruising away to reveal deep royal blue to intense amethyst color. Straight to sinuous or curved, thicker below, base somewhat tapered. KOH negative. Taste indistinct. Odor not strong, but unpleasant... rancid-farinceous. Fruiting in moss under Nothofagus. Possibly C. austrocyanites?
