Specimen notes
Public Note:
Same as the previous collection. The pycnidia are actually perithecia which are a little more mature here, but not totally. Note the same leaf has both straight and curved setae tips. They seem to represent different stages of maturity. On the perithecia the setate remain shorter and not curved. The ascospores are initially short but become elongate, 2-3 septate, hyaline at maturity. DNA sample of perithecia of straight tipped colony. Also culture needs sequence cross-check. In culture this forms a grey velvety colony (if correctly sampled) which forms conidiomata with tiny microconidia. I got 3 different sequences from this. The culture (jac17352c) is a Nigrograna sp. (=Biatriospora?) new to NZ an doubtfully the Microxyphium. Jac17352 a,b are gel splits from vivo material. One in the Capnodiales and perhaps near Leptoxyphium (pycnidia with elongate beaks), and is the most likely. The final sequence is an Aphanophora and again seems an unlikely candidate, but does have saetae
