Specimen notes
Public Note:
Lesions with raised purple distinct borders and white disk at maturity, in which the conidiomata form. Conidia hyaline, 1-septate, 30-50 x 2.5um. For Laundon S. exotica on lesions 1-3mm, pale grey necrotic centre, with sharply defined margin, condia hyaline, 20-30um x 1.um wide. Pseudophaeophleospora atkinsonii larger lesions 3-8mm diam, brown and less sharply defined margins, conidia yellowish-brown and 25-45 x 2.5um. This material is macroscopically S. exotica and microscopically P. atkinsonii. The sequence confirms S. exotica and not P. atkinsonii.. I don't think ITS is adequately separating species. Same as isolates from tomato and cucurbits. Note that a recent paper synonimises the two species and I think that is based on misidentifications. More isolates are needed.
