Specimen notes
Public Note:
[WMD] This small pink-red Laccaria is relatively common but not distinctly associated with any mycorrhizal host. There were no obvious host trees in the vicinity of this observation. The cap is pink to dark pink with a paler margin which is typically not fluted but one fruit body was observed to be fluted. The cap size was 8 to 20 mm in diameter. The gills are pale pink and attached, notched and with a slight decurrent tooth. The stipe is pink, darker at the base and narrows towards the base. There was a powdery appearance at the apex of some stipes. Remnant mature coastal broadleaf forest. No weedy Acacia or any Pomaderris species seen. Observed in an area of mature forest. Canopy trees in the vicinity of this observation (20 m radius) are mature kohekohe (Dysoxylum spectabile), taraire (Beilschmiedia tarairi), karaka (Corynocarpus laevigatus), a small kahikatea (Dacrycarpus dacrydioides), small-leafed kowhai (Sophora microphylla) with an understorey of mamaku (Cyathea medullaris), ponga (Cyathea dealbata), nikau (Rhopalostylis sapida), mapou (Myrsine australis), hangehange (Geniostoma ligustrifolium), kawakawa (Piper excelsum), mahoe (Melicytus ramiflorus), pate (Schefflera digitata), rangiora (Brachyglottis repanda), seedlings of the above canopy trees and various ground ferns.
