Specimen notes
Public Note:
[GS] Growing on very rotten wood in broadleaf-podocarp forest. Caps to 40 mm across, centrally depressed, yellowish-brown in the centre fading to yellow near the margin which is slightly wavy/scalloped. Gills bright yellow (the photo doesn't do it justice), attached to stem. Stems yellowish at the top, becoming orange then brown down the stem, tapering markedly towards the base. [JAC] spores brown, smooth, with large germ pore, ellipsoid. Gills with hyaline and yellow cheilocystidia but but not changing in KOH/Patent blue (not chrysocystidia). Cap red in KOH. Taste bitter. On wood not soil. Theoretically our version of Hypholoma australianum but I'll check.
G. Smith, J.A. Cooper
