Specimen notes
Public Note:
to 12cm diam. Without basal membrane. Abruptly rooting and with rhizoids. Strong unpleasant odour. Spores with pedicel and smooth and capillitium without pores but with sparse granular encrustation. This from the olivaceous first year gleba. From a year old reddish brown gleba the capillitium is smooth with no encrustation, spores with pedicel and sparsely echinulate. Keys to Grgruninovich C. candida var. fusca but Cunningham stresses smooth versus non-smooth perdium, making this C. gigantea (a small one), but that has pores on the capillitium. This is closer to C. gigantea, but surely not the same? The combination of sparsely echinulate spores with a persistent pedicel, large frb, smooth expoperidium and olivaceous/dark rusty gleba seems to be unique compared to similar large species C. gigantea, C. bicolor, C. booniana, C. polygonia, C. nipponica, C. craniformis, C, cyathformis.
