Some confusion here. Ridley has used the name M. curtus for something looking similar but which is however not recorded from NZ (=Australia) and very much smaller (max height 3cm) and red. Ross recorded M. curtisii which is considered the same as M. elegans and is closer. The modern use of the name M. borneensis is clearly the same as this (and Ridley's concept), except it may not be sensu stricto. See also Jansia boninensis.
