Specimen notes
Public Note:
A295: Spores, including apiculus, length=12.4-15.0µm (µ=13.4, σ=0.74), width=7.4-8.7µm (µ=7.8, σ=0.40), Q=1.7-1.8µm (µ=1.73, σ=0.06), n=9. Spores smaller than C. violaecovolvatus and smaller Q. Sequence near beeverorum/dulciolens. Requires another collection to confirm and/or repeat. Where does Soop's Thaxterogaster viola sit? A repeat sequence is the same. Sequence is nearly the same as Horak's T. pisciodorus, That was described as dark brown and yellow towards margin. Perhaps the epithet indicates the single collection was old and rotten. However, the peridium of the type is not dark brown and shows purple tinges. Subsequent shotgun genome sequencing of the 1922 lectotype of C. porphyroideus indicates that this is the real C. porphyroideus and C. pisciodorus is a synonym. The most common purple pouch is actually C. violaceovolvatus with Thaxterogaster viola as a synonym.
