Characterised as:
The fungi were identified based on morphological characteristics and confirmed with the proof of pathogenicity test using principles.
Pathogenic to:
Oil palm seedlings.
Avirulent to:
coconut seedlings
Other Details:
5 different fungi suspected to be causal agents of Dieback disease (new disease on oil palm) were identified and confirmed based on the morphological identification, the isolates are suspected to be of different genera but closely related. The isolates were identified from 22 oil palm plot/plantation and were grouped into 5 groups. Group one-A (Gp.1A) consist of isolates from palm plot: "PSI-1, PSI-3, K40-1, K40-2 and K8" with stranded mycelia, black pigmentations when aging but produce no fruiting bodies on any of the substrates used.
Growth Conditions:
7 days on PDA and/or Oat meal agar at 28oC +/- 1oC.
Substrate: Sawdust, rice bran and husk, sorghum, millet and maize
